Day Camp Programs Descriptions:

Aquatics - 2 weeks
Campers participate in the YMCA Learn to Swim Program and strive to complete their next level during this two-week session. Campers receive a one-hour lesson daily with a certified YMCA Aquatics Instructor who provides a report card at the end of the session. They also have fun with a one-hour recreational swim and other activities such as sports, arts and traditional camp games each day.

Arts - 2 weeks
In this two-week program, campers spend three hours a day developing skills and exploring different artistic mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpting and photography. Campers also participate in traditional camp games, swimming and camp theme days.

Arts at the Alton Mill Arts Centre (YMCA Cedar Glen only)
- 1 week

This one-week specialty arts camp is for campers interested in having fun while learning about a spectrum of art mediums!
YMCA Cedar Glen has partnered with the Alton Mill Arts Centre to provide a unique specialty arts camp. All one-week sessions will be taught by professional artists in their own studios. www.altonmill.ca
Week 1: July 2-5 and Week 6: August 6-9 - Campers will learn basic drawing techniques with C.J. Shelton, abstract painting with Lucille Weber, jewelry making with Gallery Gemma and landscape painting or mask making with Paul Morin.
Week 2: July 8-12 - Create shadow boxes and art in motion with Paul Morin, drawing with C.J. Shelton and create encaustic paintings with an ancient method that uses bees wax and oil paints.
Week 7: Aug 12-16 - Campers will learn basic drawing techniques with C.J. Shelton, abstract painting with Lucille Weber, jewelry making with Gallery Gemma and pottery with Ann Randeraad. All sessions with culminate by spending the day at YMCA Cedar Glen every Friday to participate in fun and exciting camp theme days and traditional day camp activities.

Busing for this camp is included and is available from: Pinegrove Public School, Kleinburg Public School, Caledon East United Church and Caledon Central Pool.

Baseball – 2 weeks
Campers spend three hours daily on skill development, athletic fitness and sportsmanship during this two-week program.Campers receive a report card detailing skills mastered, areas to practice, personal achievements and a certificate of completion. They also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Basketball Junior - 1 week
Campers focus on basketball skill development and fun games promoting teamwork and cooperation during this one-week program. Campers will receive certificate of achievement. They also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Basketball Senior - 2 weeks
Campers spend three hours daily on skill development, athletic fitness and sportsmanship during this two-week program. Campers receive a report card detailing skills mastered, areas to practice, personal achievements and a certificate of completion. They also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Computer Animation (Humber College specialty) - 1 week
(Ages 9, 10) Ever watch your favourite cartoon and wonder how it’s made? Or draw a cool character and wish you could bring it to life? Well now’s your chance! In this fun, interactive one-week program, creating cool characters is only the first step. Campers will also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.
(Ages 11, 12) Did you love Toy Story? Finding Nemo? The Incredibles? These classic animated movie favourites are all products of 3D modeling and animation. Campers learn how to use 3D modeling, effects and rendering software during this one-week program. Campers will also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Creative Arts, Dance and Drama - 1 week
Campers express themselves artistically through visual and performance arts during this one-week program. Campers are encouraged to explore new mediums and creative outlets such as acting, singing, dancing, drawing, costume and set design, while planning for a showcase. Parents are encouraged to come and watch the weekly performance on Friday afternoon. Campers also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Environmental Science - 1 week
Campers enjoy three hours daily of hands-on environmental science experiments and activities that are both fun and educational during this one-week program. Activities vary based on the location of the camp and the interests of the campers. Campers also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Girls in Action - 2 weeks
Tween girls make new friends, learn new skills and build self-esteem during this two-week program. The program includes the Babysitter Training Course and First Aid Skills. Other activities are based on the interests of the girls and may include a spa day, group fitness classes (Arriba dance, pilates, yoga, etc.), health and wellness workshops, swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Golf at Glen Eagle Golf Course (YMCA Cedar Glen only)
- 1 week

In partnership with Glen Eagle Golf Course, campers learn from a golf pro at the golf club facilities during this one-week program. They experience the junior course, specially designed for young beginner golfers, and will hone their golfing skills on the picturesque greens. Campers receive a report card detailing skills mastered, areas to practice, personal achievements and a certificate of completion. All one-week sessions culminate by spending the day at YMCA Cedar Glen on Friday to have fun with exciting camp theme days and traditional day camp activities. www.gleneagle.ca

Horsemanship at Caledon Equestrian School (YMCA Cedar Glen only) - 1 week
In partnership with Caledon Equestrian School, campers take riding lessons and learn horse care, crafts and good horsemanship, which covers all aspects of having a horse. Run by Caledon’s only Equine Canada Level 2 Coach, Susan Fripp, the camp mandate is safety, fun and learning. All one-week sessions culminate by spending the day at YMCA Cedar Glen on Friday to have fun with exciting camp theme days and traditional day camp activities. www.caledonequestrian.com

Martial Arts - 2 weeks
Campers learn and master skills for three hours daily as they develop athletic fitness in this two-week introductory program taught by a certified martial arts Instructor. Campers also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Martial Arts at Phoenix Martial Arts Studio (YMCA Cedar Glen only) - 1 week
Campers learn and master skills as they develop athletic fitness in this one-week introductory program taught by a certified martial arts Instructor at the Phoenix Martial Arts Studio in Bolton. All one-week sessions culminate by spending the day at YMCA Cedar Glen on Friday to have fun with exciting all camp theme days and traditional day camp activities. www.phoenixmartialarts.com

Natural Arts - 1 week
Campers get creative with daily arts and crafts activities using natural and recycled materials during this one-week program. Picture frames, traditional dream-catchers and charcoal sketches are just a few of the crafts your camper might come home with. Campers also have fun with traditional camp games, swimming, nature hikes and camp theme days.

Outdoor Adventure - 1 week
Campers enjoy outdoor activities and gain an appreciation for the natural world during this one-week program. Outdoor activities vary from camp to camp, but may include nature hikes, exploring streams, frog catching, fire building, canoeing or paddle boating, archery and mountain biking. Campers also have fun with traditional camp games, swimming and camp theme days.

Outdoor Adventure Advanced (overnight included) - 2 weeks
This two-week program is for young people interested in furthering their outdoor adventure skills. Campers spend three hours daily on survival and outdoor living/adventure-based skill development. Activities vary from camp to camp but may include canoeing, mountain biking, archery, orienteering, geo-caching, fire building, knot tying, pioneering and challenging hikes. Campers also enjoy an overnight retreat to YMCA Cedar Glen, where they can put their trust and communication skills to the test on both high and low rope challenge courses and rock climbing wall. Campers receive a report card detailing skills mastered, areas to practice, personal achievements and a certificate of completion. They also
have fun with traditional camp games, swimming and camp theme days.

Photography (Humber College specialty) - 1 week
(Ages 9, 10) Capture, edit and share! Campers use a high-end DSLR camera and learn building blocks of photography and Adobe Photoshop to import photos and share creations with friends and family during this one-week program. Already own a camera? Campers can bring it for even more customized instruction.
(Ages 11, 12) Great photographers master their equipment and see the world through a unique lens. Campers learn not only how to use the advanced technical features of a camera, but when to use them and what settings will achieve the desired effects. Find the perfect balance between light, composition, exposure, shutter speed, aperture and RAW vs. JPG formats to create stunning digital images. Campers polish their portfolio of work by editing photographs in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. Already own a camera? Campers can bring it for even more customized instruction.

Robotics (Humber College specialty) - 1 week
(Ages 9, 10) Imagine it, build it and make it go! Using MINDSTORMS Education NXT Base Set and Software, campers explore the exciting world of robotics during this one-week program. Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system, an intelligent microcomputer brick, and intuitive drag and drop programming software, this adventure will have campers creating cool robots on the first day.
(Ages 11, 12) Campers study in-depth exploration of building and programming robots using the LEGO® Mindstorm NXT. Campers learn mechanical design, construction, programming and teamwork skills. In small teams, using LEGO blocks, motors and sensors, they build robots that can walk, draw, move objects, or find their own way and avoid obstacles. In addition to the LEGO set, campers use other methods to build unique robots.

Soccer Junior - 1 week
In this one-week program, campers focus on soccer skill development and fun games promoting teamwork and cooperation. Campers will receive certificate of achievement. They also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Soccer Senior - 2 weeks
Campers spend three hours daily on skill development, athletic fitness and sportsmanship during this two-week program. Campers receive a report card detailing skills mastered, areas to practice, personal achievements and a certificate of completion. They also have fun with other activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Variety - 1 week
Campers enjoy a variety of fun, interactive and co-operative activities that keep them engaged during this one-week program. Activities vary based on location and the interests of the campers and may include sports, arts and crafts, drama and outdoor adventure. They also have fun with swimming and theme days.

Variety Sports - 1 week
Campers focus on a different sport each day and explore skill development, game play and sportsmanship during this one-week program. Sports will vary based on location and the interests of the campers and may include soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, lacrosse, ball hockey, cricket, flag football, badminton and table tennis. They also have fun withother activities such as swimming, theme days and traditional camp games.

Youth Aquatic Leadership Programs (overnight included)
- 2 weeks

Youth work toward their Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross certifications in a full day camp setting during this two-week program. Youth spend four to five hours daily on lifesaving certification skills and the remainder of the day participating in camp activities. During an overnight retreat to YMCA Cedar Glen, they can put their trust and communication skills to the test on both high and low rope challenge courses and rock climbing wall. They also have the opportunity to volunteer at a YMCA Day Camp based on successful completion of the program and an interview. Community service hours for school may also be earned this program.
Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid: Week 3 & 4 (18-20 hr.): Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defense methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500-metre timed swim.
Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid: Week 7 & 8 (18-20 hr.): Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600-metre swim. (Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion)

Youth Leadership (overnight included) - 2 weeks
Learn, grow, lead! These programs educate, empower and engage young people. Youth learn and develop the skills required to become a leader during this two-week program, which also includes basic first aid and CPR certification. During an overnight retreat to YMCA Cedar Glen, they can put their trust and communication skills to the test on both high and low rope challenge courses and rock climbing wall. The educational elements of the leadership program are based on the interests of the youth and may vary based on location. Youth also have the opportunity to volunteer at a YMCA Day Camp based on successful completion of the program and an interview. Community service hours for school may also be earned through this program.
