As an outstanding student in high school, Neil was confident he could follow any career path he chose. However, in his first year of law school, Neil’s marks dropped drastically. As a high achiever, Neil was devastated by his perceived failure. His confidence was at an all-time low and he was beginning to doubt his abilities.

Looking for solutions, Neil made an appointment for testing and counseling through a YMCA Career Planning program. His results revealed a strong mechanical aptitude. Although Neil had always considered his passion for rebuilding old cars just a hobby, his scores made him realize that mechanical engineering was his perfect fit.

Today, Neil is an engineer and part-time university professor who traces his success to his first vital step of seeking help. "I used to think I was bright, but suddenly my confidence was shot," Neil recalls. "My YMCA counsellor gave me a new attitude and really affirmed my ability."
