Member Etiquette & Usage Guidelines

YMCA Health Fitness & RecreationMember Etiquette is a reminder that we have expectations of people’s behaviour and how participants, volunteers and staff treat each other.

Facility Access

Preschool/Child Facility Access
Children 9 and younger may use YMCA programs and facilities when accompanied by an adult caregiver (16 years plus):

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Weekends/Holidays, 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

To ensure your child’s safety we expect that:

  • The adult caregiver of children 9 and under must remain in the facility while the children are in program.
  • When not in a program, the YMCA expects that an adult caregiver will directly supervise children 9 and under.

Youth Facility Access
Youth aged 10-15 are welcome at all times when accompanied by an adult caregiver. When not accompanied by an adult, youth are welcome before and after school and on weekends and holidays.

Program area Access
Program areas will close 15 minutes prior to building closure. All members are asked to vacate the building by 11:15 pm weekdays and 8:15 pm weekends and holidays. Members will not be admitted after 11:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 p.m. on weekends.

Day Locker Access

Family changeroom
The Family changeroom is available for use by families and anyone who requires assistance to prepare to participate in programs.  As this is a multi-gender change area there is no nudity allowed in the main areas of the changeroom.  You must shower in your swim suit.  We have many large change stalls available.  Large lockers are also provided in this area so that the whole family can share one locker.

Women’s general changeroom
Female YMCA Members and guests 10 years of age and older are welcome to use this changeroom. Children 6 to 9 years must be accompanied and supervised by a same sex adult caregiver.

Do not bring valuables into the changeroom.  Wallet safes are located across from the Courtesy Desk.  We recommend the use of security padlocks, available at the Courtesy Desk.

Men’s general changeroom
Male YMCA Members and guests 10 years of age and older are welcome to use this changeroom. Children 6 to 9 years must be accompanied and supervised by a same sex adult caregiver.

Do not bring valuables into the changeroom.  Wallet safes are located across from the Courtesy Desk.  We recommend the use of security padlocks, available at the Courtesy Desk.

Membership Plus
Males and females 22 years and older with this membership options are welcome to use these changerooms.

Program Area Access

Youth Program Access (13-15 years)
Youth 13-15 years of age are encouraged to participate in a Conditioning Room Equipment Orientation prior to using the program area.

Track Access
Participants must be 16 years of age to use the track.

Open Access programs
Open Access Programming is available to all members. Age requirements and sign up may apply.

Pool access
Children 0-5 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver who is at least 16 years of age.  Parents  or caregivers must be in the water and within arms reach of the child at all times.

Children under the age of 10, who successfully complete the facility swim test, may be admitted to the pool accompanied with an adult who remains on deck at all times.

Children under the age of 10, who cannot complete the facility swim test, must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver who is at least 16 years of age.  Parents or caregivers must be in the water and within arms reach of the child at all times.

Youth ages 10-15 and adults (16+) are welcome to swim in the pool as appropriate to their swimming ability.
