Celebrating our first YMCA City Connector

Some people give to a cause. Others help build the community that sustains it. For nearly 40 years, Helen Sinclair has been one of the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s most steadfast champions. As a Board member, Board Chair, campaign leader, mentor, ambassador, and trusted advisor, she has devoted her extraordinary talents, wisdom, and influence to strengthening the YMCA and expanding its impact across our region. Her passion and foresight were instrumental in the development and growth of YMCA Child Care and Newcomer Services.

A pioneering leader in Canadian business and governance, Helen has always believed that leadership carries a responsibility to give back. She has opened doors, inspired giving, connected people to purpose, and encouraged countless others to join in building a stronger YMCA.  Her gift has never been limited to her own generosity. She has brought together leaders, sparked meaningful relationships, championed bold ideas, and helped foster a culture of philanthropy that continues to strengthen our organization today.

Through periods of growth, transformation, and extraordinary impact, Helen’s guidance has helped shape the YMCA’s future. She has strengthened volunteer leadership, cultivated transformational support, forged lasting partnerships, and created opportunities for generations of children, youth, families, and seniors. Her influence can be seen in the people she has engaged, the leaders she has recruited, and the communities that have benefited from her unwavering belief in the YMCA’s mission.

In recognition of her exceptional service, in 2017 Helen was recognized as an Officer of the YMCA Fellowship of Honour. Yet perhaps her greatest legacy is not any title or distinction. It is the countless people she has inspired to care, to lead, and to give.

Today, we are proud to honour Helen as the inaugural recipient of the YMCA City Connector Award. For a lifetime of leadership, generosity, vision, and unwavering belief in the power of community, we celebrate a remarkable volunteer whose impact will be felt for generations. Helen has helped build more than a stronger YMCA. She has helped build a stronger GTA.
