Introduced to the YMCA by longtime volunteer Helen Sinclair, Steven and Sharon Ranson were deeply impressed by the Y’s significant impact on community health through its wide-ranging programs in health and fitness, child care, new immigrant assistance, youth programs and more.
From their earliest involvement, Steven and Sharon provided generous support to the YMCA while their leadership and influence inspired support from others. As members of the Strong Start, Great Future campaign cabinet, they opened doors to business and community leaders and introduced friends and colleagues to the Y.
Their contributions extended well beyond fundraising. Through wise counsel, thoughtful feedback, and a deep belief in volunteer engagement, they helped strengthen campaign strategy and inspire meaningful participation from fellow volunteers. Steven also served as a member of the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s Board of Directors from 2020 until just a few weeks ago. He provided strong guidance and leadership during a period of significant growth and change.
Together, Steven and Sharon have consistently used their voices, networks, and resources to advance the YMCA’s mission. From securing support for the Y to deepening their own philanthropic investments in community well-being, the Ransons have helped create opportunities for countless people to thrive.
Today, their generosity continues with a transformative commitment to the new Bridletowne YMCA, helping bring vital supports to Scarborough’s underserved Steeles/ L’Amoureaux community. Steven and Sharon know that this new centre will strengthen that community by helping the Y create spaces where people can build connections, find community, and experience belonging.
It is with gratitude and admiration that the YMCA of Greater Toronto proudly welcomes Steven and Sharon Ranson as City Builders.
