Is Jumping Jamboree a Gambling Activity?

Gambling is risking something of value on an uncertain event and not knowing if you are going to win or lose. This can be a roll of the dice, a turn of a playing card, the outcome of a sporting event or the content of a loot box. What it means is that gambling always involves a certain degree of chance and when you risk your valuables, you are not sure what happens and whether you win or lose.

For an activity to meet the definition of gambling, ask yourself these two questions:

Does the activity, in this case the Jumping Jamboree game, involve chace? Meaning the player doesn't know if they will win or lose?

Does the activity, in this case the Jumping Jamboree game, involve chace? Meaning the player doesn't know if they will win or lose?

The answer to this question is "yes". The Jumping Jamboree game includes chance but it also involves skill. In a game of skill, you can get better with practise. In this game, you can control when and how your character jumps and that's the skill-based part of the game. But you were also introduced to a loot box, and that is the chance-based element of the game; you don't know what item you are going to get.

Does the activity, in this case the Jumping Jamboree game, involve risking valuable items like personal items, skins (in-game virtual items that are predominantly cosmetic), in-game currency, etc., or payment of some sort to play the game?

The answer to this question is "no". An item of value can be anything from money to your favourite item or in-game currencies. You do not need to pay to play the Jumping Jamboree game.

You can play it for free. And while it is true that you were required to pay 50 coins to open the loot box and that coins are considered valuables as in-game currencies, the coins were provided to you for free. You are not required to buy coins using real money in order to unlock the loot box.

Therefore, the Jumping Jamboree game is not a gambling activity as it does not meet the above two criteria. However, the Jumping

Jamboree game has elements of gambling like loot box unlocking which will be explored below.
