Description
The DuChef and Ashuapmushuan Rivers provides the best of all worlds: fun whitewater, fast current, and challenging days, making it the perfect river to spend on your LIT year. Participants will begin with a few days at camp to pack and prepare everything they will need for 22 days on the water. The group will then travel 12 hours north of the Rivière à la Perche in central Quebec. The Perche is a challenging start to the program, participants will be paddling upriver, lining boats up rapids, and some bushwacking. Once they reach Lac File Axe, they start the DuChef, which has fun, long whitewater and camping on sandy shores, widening as you continue down. The group will finish their journey in St Félicien, Quebec, before returning to camp where time will be spent in placements and on stewardship opportunities around the camp community. A trip down the DuChef and Ashuapmushuan Rivers will allow participants to work on their leadership skills, learn about themselves, and have a greater respect for the original stewards of the land who have protected this river from development. Please note this trip is an all-gendered program, accommodations both on trip and at camp will be all-gender.
Skill Level: Intermediate-Advanced
Some experience with extended canoe tripping is recommended. Must be a confident swimmer.
What to expect: 6-8 hour paddling days, bushwacking and walking up rapids, whitewater with big waves, unestablished campsites
