Participants of the Y4Y Digital Media Contest were recognized and celebrated at the annual Y4Y Award Ceremony on the evening of December 15 2022. The Award Ceremony not only celebrates the accomplishments and hard work of contestants, but also acknowledges the efforts made by community partners, contest organizer jury members and youth jury members. It is an opportunity to bring together and celebrate youth from across the province.
Video Winners
Sidney Hiemstra (1st Place)
Growing up in a small Ontario town, Sidney has been editing videos since second grade. He started off by creating silly videos with his classmates, then on YouTube, and later on created multiple videos promoting his high school’s events. Sidney has always had a passion to produce art, whether that be writing, designing, performing on stage, or videography. He plans to use his passion to start his own freelance business while making YouTube videos on the side..
Mark Kravchenko (2nd Place)
Calling Ontario home, Mark is a second year engineering student who loves merging his technical knowledge with his artistic flair. Since an early age he was captivated by the craft of videography and will take any opportunity to get inspired and create.
Ngozi Udeh (3rd Place)
Coming from Alberta, Ngozi has always taken an interest in science. While studying topics like brain development in post secondary, Ngozi welcomed the opportunity to bridge her love of editing with what she was learning. In doing so, she hopes to raise awareness about important mental health topics, such as the effects of cannabis on youth's brain development.
Poster Winners
Mei Ling (1st Place)
From Ontario, Mei Ling Phung graduated with a diploma in Broadcasting - Television and now works within the public library system. As someone with a long-standing interest in media creation, she hopes her design skills will help convey the impacts of Cannabis in a visually appealing manner that youth will connect too.

Javairia and Michelle (2nd Place)
Based out of Alberta, Javairia and Michelle are two sisters who are passionate about promoting youth health. With Javairia’s education in public health and Michelle’s keen eye for design, the two enjoyed working together to create an educational and non-judgmental poster that prioritizes a harm reduction approach. Both hope to deepen their understanding of the issues faced by youth and contribute in their own way. Their shared hobbies include admiring the outdoors, exploring new restaurants, and watching documentaries.
