YMCA Transitional Housing
Our charity has long supported 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Notably, YMCA Sprott House was one of Canada’s first transitional housing programs for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
A Government of Canada Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) and City of Toronto funding announcement paves the way for a new 31-unit, six-storey transitional housing initiative currently under construction on a YMCA property in downtown Toronto.
The initiative will create housing for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Although they represent just 10% of the Canadian population, almost one out of every three homeless young people in Canada identifies within the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
RHI is delivered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) under the National Housing Strategy.
Applications are expected to open in December 2025 followed by an opening in March 2026.
