Civic Action Project 2024-25
Civic action as described by youth.gov is “working to make a difference in the civic life of one’s community and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference”. The goal of the Civic Action Project was to to promote overall community health & wellness, To promote equity for all community members, and to take action & have meaningful impact on a key community issue. The Civic Action Projects occurred fully online this year, and youth project teams were composed of 4 to 6 members tasked to dig deeper & take action on a community issue. Each team was judged by the YGTA Teen Council and their ability to take action, engage the community, make a meaningful impact and communicate their learnings.
Many participants as a result raised awareness of key community issues & presented potential solutions, with meaningful steps to action, and promoted equity for all community members. Both within and outside the YMCA. The Civic Action project will be continued in the future, as it proves vital to engaging young members of the community to step forward and take action in meaningful contributions to their community.
