About the Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre
The Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre will be a 56,000-square-foot community hub. It will house an innovative collaboration between the YMCA of Greater Toronto, United Way Greater Toronto, and other community service providers.
This new, multi-service community hub and the programs within its walls will be designed to meet local needs and improve overall community well-being. Plans include a YMCA Centre of Community with a pool, gymnasium, outdoor play area, and camp activity space.
In addition to health and fitness spaces and a child care centre, plans include a United Way hub, shared spaces for community gatherings, cultural and social programming, and parking.
Co-locating multiple community organizations in the two-storey space will not only be convenient for community members, but will also enable innovative partnerships to develop.
Meeting Pressing Needs
High housing costs and economic insecurity can make it more difficult for residents to access recreational opportunities, invest time in community activities, or benefit from shared public spaces.
Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre will help bridge these gaps, bringing vital services and supports together under one roof.
YMCA of Greater Toronto
Each YMCA Centre of Community delivers a suite of programs and services tailored to meet the unique needs of the neighbourhood it serves. Some of the signature YMCA programs currently planned for the new Bridletowne YMCA include:
- Teen Nights, where youth access our centre for free, giving them opportunities to get active, meet positive role models, and join new activities that financial barriers might otherwise prevent them from trying.
- Free Youth Leadership Development groups, where youth build the skills they need to succeed in school, work, and life; grow a network of friends and adult allies; and find a sense of community and belonging.
- Health and fitness programs, including group fitness classes, sports and rec programs, and child and family programs that support physical and mental well-being for people of all ages and abilities.
- Licensed, not-for-profit child care, where kids build foundational literacy, numeracy, arts, and science skills through our Playing to Learn Curriculum, and caregivers gain the support they need to pursue careers.
United Way Greater Toronto
Here are just some of the ways United Way will help meet the needs of local residents:
- Increase resident access to a wide array of social services that meet the needs in the community
- Provide equitable access for residents to community space
- Increase collaboration amongst community stakeholders, residents, agencies, and service providers
- Fund culturally appropriate programs to support the mental health of individuals from the East and Southeast Asian communities
- Support care for the rising senior population in the neighbourhood
- Provide employment and skills development support to address the lower level of education and labour force participation
