YMCA of Greater Toronto Black Achievers Mentorship Program Expands to Durham Region
Growing demand drives expansion of the mentorship program into the Durham Region, connecting more Black youth with mentors across the Greater Toronto Area.
Toronto - September 10, 2026 – Today, the YMCA of Greater Toronto announced the expansion of its Black Achievers Mentorship Program into the Durham Region, creating new opportunities for Black youth to develop leadership skills, build meaningful connections, and learn from mentors.
Launched in 2021, the YMCA Black Achievers Mentorship Program empowers Black youth to build confidence, leadership skills, and social connections through mentorship and community-based learning experiences. The program is designed to help young people see themselves reflected in leadership, while fostering a strong sense of belonging and confidence. Participants receive guidance from Black mentors and role models across a range of sectors and industries, gaining insights on leadership, networking and post-secondary opportunities.
With the addition of Durham Region, the program currently serves youth in Scarborough, North Etobicoke and Brampton. The expansion will increase access to mentorship and leadership development programming for Black youth across the Greater Toronto Area.

Registrations remain open for both youth participants and mentors interested in joining the program. The first Durham Region session is scheduled to begin Saturday, September 12.
