How long has the YMCA offered licensed child care?The YMCA of Greater Toronto has offered licensed child care programs since 1968 and has grown to become the largest provider of licensed not-for-profit child care in Ontario.
In what regions is the YMCA operating licensed home child care?Currently we are launching in Dufferin, Durham, and Peel regions with planned expansion to other regions throughout the GTA.
How will the YMCA deliver savings to eligible child care families?- We are refunding families 25% of fees paid from April 1, 2022 until August 31, 2022, less any outstanding balance. Families will receive their refund cheques by November 30, 2022.
- We will adjust families’ accounts to reduce fees by 25%, to a minimum of $12-a-day, from September 1, 2022 until December 31, 2022. Once a family’s account has been adjusted, a credit will be applied to future payments and a revised receipt will be emailed to the account holder on file.
- In January 2023, we will adjust families accounts to reduce fees by 52.75% of original fees, to a minimum of $12-a-day.
- We are committing to reduce child care fees to average of $10-a-day by September 2025.
How long will the process take for me to become a home child care provider contracted by the YMCA?The process to become a home child care provider contracted by the YMCA takes approximately four–eight weeks. This will depend on the time it takes for the home provider applicant to:
- Complete agency screening — interview for suitability, personal reference checks, home visits for safety, fire inspection and verified Vulnerable Sector Check for themselves and anyone else in the household who is 18 or older.
- Submit up-to-date immunization records and health assessments for themselves and anyone else in the home.
- Obtain liability insurance coverage — Commercial General Liability Insurance, Standard, Automobile Insurance (if using your car for your business) and Abuse Liability Insurance.
- Provide required certifications — Standard First Aid including Infant/Child CPR and Food Handlers Certification.
- Purchase of any equipment required.
